About the title of the book

The book is called “The Push”, and the translator translated it as “I should never have become a mother”, which I think is a little bit biased. Of course, it comes from the article itself, but it is not as profound and concise as the original English title. At the same time, “The Push” is actually a central part of the book’s suspense—was it the little girl, Violet, who pushed her brother’s stroller into the middle of the road, thus causing the tragedy?

Motherhood

While a woman is still in her mother’s womb, an egg has been laid in her own womb, meaning that mother and daughter are conceived in the same womb. The fact that this book uses this quote as its title page actually teases out a point - that a woman’s acquisition of the identity of motherhood is not voluntary. Not all girls have to make their lives complete by becoming mothers. To tie a woman’s worth to motherhood is a desecration and a massacre of what it means to be a woman in her own right.

Marriage

The book touches on almost everything that comes with marriage, the sweetness of first love, the nitty-gritty of marriage, and the husband’s affairs, making one wonder, “Such is Life.”

Failure
